Explore Zakynthos by Car
Your guide to the island's best beaches, viewpoints, and hidden spots — all reachable by road.
Why You Need a Car in Zakynthos
Zakynthos is an island best explored at your own pace. The bus network is limited, taxis are expensive, and many of the most spectacular spots — like Navagio Shipwreck viewpoint and the Blue Caves — are only reachable by car.
With a rental from Timos, you're free to leave when you want, stop wherever catches your eye, and chase that perfect sunset without checking a timetable.
Top Destinations in Zakynthos
Six must-visit places — each one best reached in a rental car from Timos.
Navagio Shipwreck Viewpoint
- ~30 min from Zakynthos Town
- Tarmac road to viewpoint (4WD not required)
Arrive before 9 AM to beat the crowds. The viewing platform offers one of Greece's most photographed vistas.
Blue Caves (Skinari)
- ~45 min from Zakynthos Town
- Good road to Cape Skinari village
Park in Skinari village and take a boat trip into the caves. Stunning turquoise water at its best in the morning sun.
Porto Limnionas
- ~30 min from Zakynthos Town
- Narrow coastal road — compact car ideal
A hidden sea inlet on the west coast. Crystal-clear water, natural rock formations, and a small taverna. Our personal favourite.
Laganas & Kalamaki
- ~15 min from Zakynthos Town
- Main road, easy access
Home to the loggerhead sea turtle nesting beach. Evening drives often yield turtle sightings near the shoreline.
Alykes & Alykanas
- ~20 min from Zakynthos Town
- Straight coast road, very easy
Calm, shallow beaches ideal for families with children. The salt flats nearby attract flamingos in season.
Keri Lighthouse & Marathonisi
- ~25 min from Zakynthos Town
- Mountain road to Keri — good condition
Drive up to Keri Lighthouse for panoramic views across the whole island. From Keri harbour, take a boat to Marathonisi turtle island.
Driving in Zakynthos — Tips from Locals
Download Offline Maps
Mobile signal can be patchy in mountain areas. Download Google Maps offline before you set off.
Avoid Midday in Summer
In July and August, popular beach roads get congested 11 AM–3 PM. Drive early or late to beat traffic.
Fill Up in Town
There are no petrol stations north of the island. Fill up in Zakynthos Town before heading to Skinari or Navagio.
Parking is Easy
Outside July and August, parking is rarely a problem. Most beaches and viewpoints have free parking areas.
Greek Roads
Main roads are good quality. Mountain and village roads can be narrow — an economy car or small SUV is often the best choice.
